From Studio Due to Leprecon
We have been using the Studio Due
Control 5 lighting controller for about 3 years now to very little success.
When we purchased the controller, we did so due to the price. I anticipated
having to learn a new system but welcomed the challenge. Having so said, 3
years in I still struggle with the Studio Due operating system. I admit our
company does not send the controller out very often so I have to relearn the
system each time. When it comes to asking one of our lighting guys to use the
Studio Due it is never well received.
Our lighting rentals have been flawless
when using the controller with simple par cans. We use Leviton D4DMX
dimmer packs with traditional par can fixtures. The Leviton packs have been
reliable for the most part. Be advised; they fail after about 3 years because
they cannot take the beating the rental industry gives.
In addition to
traditional Parnel fixtures, we also rent L.E.D. Pars, Fixtures and Moving Head
Lights. It is usually me assuming the role of lighting guy when the Studio Due
is paired with movers (intelligent moving head lighting fixtures).
Let
it be known; on our large scale events we did not take any chances. On large
events we rented from Starlight Productions of Cherry Hill, NJ and
was introduced to Leprecon dimmers and Hog controllers.

PA, switched to Leprecon Dimmer Packs and Hog Consoles. 
After the recent
failure of a few more of our Leviton dimmer packs, we recently implemented a
long awaited upgrade to Leprecon ULD360-HP dimmer packs. The Leprecon and Hog
products are pricey but you get what you pay for. what you get is reliability,
a long lifespan and equipment in which the freelance labor force
is familiar.
On a positive Leviton
note, I love the Leviton LP1524 and I am currently looking to purchase one. We
still have the Studio Due Control 5 and D4DMX dimmer packs to sell, in the
meantime.
The
moral of the story is the age old adage...
